Doubled Die Reverses



Designation Description Image
CRDR-001 Strong extra thickness from E-W on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the torch, the branches, the leaves, and slightly on ONE DIME and USA.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Stage A: Die chips on the nose, the cheek, the back of the lips, the eyebrow, and the hair above the ear. Small die gouge far to the left of the mintmark P. Die gouge above and to the right of the S in the designers initials JS. Stage B: Die gouge near mintmark no longer visible. All other Stage A markers still visible. Most die cracks and chips increased in size. New die chip on the chin.
Reverse: Stage A: Many die cracks on the bottom of the torch. Die chip on the top of the torch. Many small die cracks and chips on the oak and olive branches. Die gouge touches the bottom of the olive stem. Stage B: All Stage A markers still visible. New die chip on the bottom of the torch. Most die cracks and chips increased in size.

CRDR-002 Extra thickness from E-W on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the torch, the branches, and the leaves. Very similar to CRDR-003, compare doubling and die markers.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the nose, the cheek, the back of the lips, the eyebrow, the ear, and the hair above the ear. Die gouge above the right side of the U in TRUST. Die gouge in the very top of the hair. Die gouge to the left of the T in LIBERTY.
Reverse: Many die cracks and chips on the bottom of the torch. Die crack runs from the bottom of the oak branch to the M in DIME. Die cracks in the upper olive leaves. Die gouge to the right of the top of the M in DIME. Die gouge to the right of the F in OF.

CRDR-003 Extra thickness from E-W on E PLURIBUS UNUM, the torch, the branches, and the leaves. Very similar to CRDR-002, compare doubling and die markers.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the nose, the back of the lips, the eyebrow, and the hair above the ear.
Reverse: Die crack runs across the bottom of the torch. Die chip on the top of the torch. Die chips in the upper olive and oak leaves. Die gouge above and to the left of the E in DIME. Die gouge to the right of the top of the E in DIME. Die gouge below the A in STATES.

CRDR-004 The entirety of the right side of the middle olive leaf overlapping the torch is doubled to the east.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the cheek, the back of the lips, and the eyebrow. Small die gouge northwest of the i in IN.
Reverse: Die crack runs across the bottom of the torch. Die gouge between the U in UNITED and the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the back of the lips. Die gouge above the second T in TRUST.
Reverse: Die gouge above the left side of the E in ONE.

CRDR-006 Doubling to the east on the middle olive leaf overlapping the torch.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the lower lip, the back of the lips, the cheek, the eyebrow, and throughout the hair.
Reverse: Many die cracks and chips on the bottom of the torch. Unusual die damage between the U and N in UNITED.

CRDR-007 Doubling to the east on the middle olive leaf overlapping the torch.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the nose. Die gouge to the right of the top of the L in LIBERTY.
Reverse: Die crack extends east from the bottom of the torch. Die crack extends west from the top of the torch.

Obverse: Die chips on the chin, the lower lip, the back of the lips, the eyebrow, and the hair. Die gouge to the right of the date and mintmark.
Reverse: Many die cracks on the bottom of the torch. Die chip on the L in PLURIBUS. Die gouge between the bottoms of the T and E in UNITED.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Die chips on the chin, the back of the lips, the nose, the eyebrow, the forehead, the ear, and the hair. Die gouge above the E in WE.
Reverse: Many die cracks and chips on the bottom of the torch. Die crack extends west from the top of the torch. Die chips on the upper olive leaves. Die gouge touches the left side of the M in AMERICA. Die gouge touches the left side of the I in UNITED.
