Doubled Die Reverses

Due to inaccurate cross-references and incomplete listings on other sites and in other references, the 1970-D Quarter DDRs will not be Cross-Referenced.

Designation Description Image
CRDR-001 Strong CCW Class I and Class III (RDV-006/RDV-007, short over long leaf) spread on USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Example pictured has machine doubling on upper reverse.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Many SW-NE die scratches throughout the obverse.
Reverse: Remnants of a die clash below the beak and above the arrow tips. Some SW-NE die scratches through E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Designation Description Image
CRDR-002 CW Class V, or potentially Class VI, and Class III (RDV-006/RDV-007, short over long leaf) doubling on QUARTER DOLLAR. Lesser doubling is likely obscured by circulation wear.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Example too worn to see die markers.
Reverse: Example too worn to see die markers.
Designation Description Image
CRDR-003 Class III doubling of RDV-006 over RDV-007 (or vice versa). The leaves to the left of the arrows are short over long. The N in UNUM is also slightly doubled.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Short, vertical die gouge to the right of the 0 in the date.
Reverse: Small die scratches below the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Designation Description Image
CRDR-004 Moderate CCW Class I and Class III (RDV-006/RDV-007, short over long leaf) spread on QUARTER DOLLAR. Example pictured has machine doubling on lower reverse. Despite heavy circulation wear, extra thickness on QUARTER DOLLAR and notching on the E in QUARTER is still visible.

Die Markers:
Obverse: None known.
Reverse: None known.
