1980-D Lincoln Memorial Cent Repunched Mintmarks

Designation Description Image
WRPM-001 D/D Northeast

Comments: This variety was listed as RPM#2 in the 1983 book The RPM Book by John A. Wexler & Tom Miller. CONECA no longer lists this as a variety. Both coins examined for this listing are later die state, and show extensive die gouges present on the obverse. I would like to see an example of this die in earlier die state to determine if the area of doubling to the northeast is a true RPM or a well placed die gouge.

Die Markers:
Obverse: Stage A: Die crack south from jacket to rim. Multiple die gouges throughout the obverse, including prominently around LIBERTY and one on Lincoln’s temple. Stage B: Same as Stage A.
Reverse: Stage A: Die polishing lines in bay 2, 10, 11. Stage B: Die polishing lines very weak. Die crack along right memorial base. Die crack right cornice tip. Die gouges under C and A in AMERICA. Die gouge right of T in CENT. Die gouge above bay 10.

WRPM-004 D/D Tilted West

Comments: The doubling is similar in character to WRPM-001. I would like to see an example of this die in earlier die state to determine if the area of doubling to the northeast is a true RPM or a well placed die gouge. The examined coin was in later die state.

Designation Description Image
WRPM-009 D/D Southeast
